Growing Out On A Limb

The three

The other day Oliver laid down on Eleanor’s play mat and asked me to take a picture of them together.

I love his kindness toward her.  He will sometimes stop his play for her and I will overhear him saying something like, “You’re so pretty!”.  Or he’ll look at me and out of the blue say, “I really love her”.

I think they’ll be great friends.  IMG_3292

Not to be left out, Emery inserted himself into the equation for a pic or two.  I love how Eleanor is looking up at Oliver in this one.  IMG_3293 Okay… now we’re just being silly!IMG_3299

Glow tub

A few nights ago we turned off the lights and threw the kids in the tub with a few glow sticks.  (Total credit for this idea goes to my friend Jill, who did this for her girls a couple of weeks while we were there for dinner).

So simple and easy and inexpensive but the kids absolutely loved it and even humored me with some pics (as always).

Pretty fun!  IMG_3311

Family pics 2013

Earlier in the fall my friend Shari came for a visit and offered to take photos of our family (lucky us!).  I’m slow to get them to the blog just because … well, these days I’m slow doing just about everything.

I love them all but here are a few of my favorites.  Even the non-smiling photo of Emery captures his personality just perfectly.

Family of … five!  IMG_2284_ShariTucker

The little ones.

Sigh… he looks so grown up.  IMG_2305_ShariTucker

Emery turns 3!

My sweet Emery,

You turned three today!  And as I tucked you into bed tonight, I asked you if you felt bigger now that you are three and you said, “I just feel like I am three years old!”.  I guess I should have known.

Here are some things about you as you turn three…

  • You have always been very affectionate and that still rings true, especially toward Eleanor.  You often and randomly declare, “I want to kiss her!” as though you must.  And then you do … over and over again.  It’s so loving.
  • You want to be wherever Oliver is and you look up to him like little brothers should look up to big brothers.
  • You like being funny.
  • You are sensitive – it hurts your feelings when Oliver sometimes picks on you and when I’m angry with you.
  • You like playing video games on the tablet.  Your current favorite is minion rush, also ralph’s world, subway surfers, and the monster’s university game.
  • You have always been more outgoing than Oliver but developed a bit of a shy streak about six months ago.
  • My goodness, you can eat.  You are still a good eater and are mostly good at trying new things.  Your favorite food right now is peanut butter and honey sandwiches.  Other favorites are carrot sticks, caesar salad, honey nut cheerios, and ice cream.
  • Just recently you are starting to play with trains and figures on your own, making up stories for them.  This has been difficult for you up until now because Oliver has always led your play.
  • You are often hesitant to try things but the look on your face when you do and succeed is priceless.
  • You know some letters and numbers.  I suspect you know more than you let on but I’m not sure because you don’t like me quizzing you like Oliver always has.  Time for mommy to get creative.

You are such a sweet and caring boy.  Although some moments at home with three kids can be difficult, I am really glad to be spending this time at home with you now.  My favorite times with you are when Oliver is at school and we have some quiet time at home or run errands together – when it’s just you and me, I learn so much about you.

You are such a loving son, a tough-skinned little brother, and an adoring smoochy big brother – the perfect Emery for our family.

Here are some pictures from your birthday party …  minion themed!  We had lots of family here to celebrate with us!

We had a big spread of food and then a “pin the goggles on the minion” game.  This was Oliver’s idea earlier in the week and I think it was a great one!  You loved it.

Your cake… see the candles?

You blew out the candles in the middle of the song and then again at the end but that’s okay.  Oliver was close by to lend you a hand but you didn’t really need it!

This is what I get for a “smile!” these days … joker!  IMG_3256

Opening presents was fun!  After each one, you said, “Wow!” as you looked at it.  IMG_3267

You are so lucky to have such fun cousins.  I love that the older cousins still know how to have fun with you (and still aren’t too old to show it).  IMG_3200

Daddy started a campfire outside to end the party (campfires are always fun).

You ended the day tuckered out and falling into bed, while I am ending the day thinking about your personality and who you are and how much I love you as you turn three years old.

Yup… that’s a great day.

Love… Mommy

Eleanor – 12 weeks

IMG_3157It’s such a cliche but I honestly don’t know where the last 12 weeks have gone.  I suppose we have had a bit more than usual going on in our lives.  But still…

She is growing so quickly.  And is this not the cutest face ever?  I am admittedly biased over here but I just want to kiss those cheeks all the time!  IMG_3138

She has plenty of smiles for mommy and daddy and her brothers too.  They love her so much that it’s sometimes too much and I have to tell them to give her some space.  IMG_3143

The expression on this face cracks me up.  IMG_3148

I just can’t imagine having more love in my heart for her.

Halloween 2013

I love Halloween and it seems the boys do too.  We’ve been talking for weeks about costumes and settled on Wreck-It Ralph and Fix-It Felix costumes (although Emery was throwing out costume ideas as recently as yesterday).  I was a bit worried about a repeat of last year’s episode, but I risked it and went homemade anyway (it’s what I do).  And I didn’t need to be worried – they both loved their costumes.

Oliver’s Halloween started yesterday with a party at preschool.  He was pretty excited to show his teacher and classmates his costume.  Here he is with his buddy Carson (best minion costume EVER!).

Today we all got dressed up and went trick or treating.  First we went to a playgroup at the resource center, then to the hospital where nana was working (the nurses all treated them so well!).  After supper the boys and I trick or treated in town at a few friends’ houses.

Eleanor was a sweet little snuggly butterfly for her first Halloween.

Oliver liked his costume so much he asked to sleep with his fists.

“I’m gonna wreck it!”

Emery happily put on his Felix costume today but also yesterday while Oliver went to his preschool party.  Several people commented on his cute little self while we were at the grocery store.

“I can fix it!”IMG_5423They were pretty happy with the events of the day.  If I have one regret it’s that I didn’t have a costume myself so I will make sure that I do in future years (Oliver’s suggestion is a mummy… go figure).

Happy Halloween!
