My plans for the summer are big… lots of parks, strolling, swimming, and time on our deck… but the deck in itself is not all that interesting to a toddler so there needed to be some incentive. Instead of a kiddie pool that needs to be dumped and filled every other day, we opted for a sand box.
I love that it is a used used sand box… given to us by a friend who had bought it at a yard sale for her boys. And he really loves it too but may need more toys or something since he seems to turn to throwing sand off the deck fairly quickly. That turns into throwing all toys off the deck and, since both are against the rules, he ends up in “timeout” after about ten minutes outside. But I’m hopeful that he catches on to the cause and effect pretty soon.
And you’ve gotta love that old-school loader, right? Given to us by our neighbor (also sawmill owner and longtime family friend), it has finally found a home in the sand box and Oliver is learning to fill it up and dump it.
