The Thomas obsession lives on so that is what Oliver mostly gravitates to when it comes to play. The engines, the track, the books, etc, etc, etc.
But there are other toys that he enjoys as well. They tend to be less flashy, un-branded, more traditional toys… three reasons why mommy likes them too! (As far as brands go, I can’t say I mind Thomas – I know it’s as huge but it seems to have a charm to it that mickey and pooh don’t).
This one was from Aunt Ali, a bead toy by EverEarth (check out the awesome toys – we also have the pull-along dog and I’m loving on the ramp racer for O). Oliver comes to this bead toy over and over again and is sometimes at it for 20 minutes or more! He calls the wooden beads “jellybeans”, which is puzzling to me considering we’ve never given him jellybeans (but obviously someone is … hmmm….). I like this toy because it’s bright and colorful and teaches him such basic concepts (and it’s fun to photograph too).
I guess it goes to show that sometimes the simpler, old school toys are as attractive and have as much or more staying power as the new flashy disney-fied ones.
