Growing Out On A Limb

Today Oliver and I took out the paints for the first time.  It was risky, I know.  It could have gone either way, considering that Oliver refused his nap today and was extra tired.  But it turns out he got a kick out of choosing the colors, dipping the brush, and putting the occasional stroke on his arms or belly or, yes, in his mouth… so it turned out well!

We tried water colors first but they were too cumbersome and dull on the paper (maybe because they were dollar store paints?) so he wasn’t into it.  We switched to acrylics… these washable acrylics that I planned on giving him for Christmas… and they were more of a hit!

We painted a terra cotta pot, destined to be a Christmas gift.  It turned out pretty much just the way I thought it would … childlike and messy and fun.  I think it’s great the way it is but I might try to add a handprint or two.
