Growing Out On A Limb

Red light, green light

I picked up this Gap shirt for Oliver at a second-hand store a while ago.  I loved the colors but there was an appliqued G on the front that had to go (I don’t care for brand names and logos splashed across my clothing).

For a while I didn’t know what to use for an applique but I was working with this awesome fabric remnant for another project and realized it would work perfectly!  Plus, cars are Oliver’s current favorite thing in the whole wide world, making it an even better choice.

So I cut out red, yellow, and green cars and slightly bigger circles of flannel fabric in the same colors.  I backed each piece with heat ‘n bond and ironed to the shirt.  Then I stitched two rough circles around each in contrasting colors (I find it really hard to stitch a decent-looking circle but I think the roughness is nice here anyway).

Hopefully it’s obvious I was going for a stop light?

I love it!  And how cute is that fabric?
